Fox turned 4 a few days ago and we felt it was finally time to give him a real birthday party... of course, by real we meant him having friends over to play in the yard and eat cake and cookies. We strung up a bunch of balloons, threw down some table cloths and called it decorated.

The real work was getting the gardens tidied and a little less wild. I mean, I love wild gardens, but wasn't sure the parents of his friends would feel their kids were safe in such a wild place. {To be clear, it's totally safe, but appearances and reality are different.}

So we tidied and cleared and junked and mulched and composted and dug and planted and watered and ended up with a kinda respectable looking yard. Of course the kids didn't care what it looked like, the parents didn't scurry their kids away in horror. All in all a success!

Slow crawl update: Bathroom edition

We are working furiously at a snail's pace on this bathroom; furiously for about 2 hours every Saturday and that's about it. It's gutted, we've got the new door in (a pocket door for space-saving efficiency) and a general idea of where things go. Some things have been ordered and are on their way. Others we're waffling on. We're not exactly efficient on this project.

Sink and hardware: Kohler 48" Brockway sink; T&S B-0315 Wall Mounted Double Pantry Faucet with Vertical 3" Centers

Lighting: Design Classics 16-inch Schoolhouse light in polished nickel; Pottery Barn Mercer Sconce in polished nickel

Mirror: I'm on the lookout for a bargain vintage mirror, but in my dream world, the Penarth mirror from Crate and Barrel would be the one.

Tile: Matte white penny round, matte white 4 x 4" square tiles, both with charcoal grout

2017: the Year of the Distractions

I've been mentally writing and rewriting posts for the past month and a half. I'm stuck in my mind on the current shape of politics. I want to write, I want to speak out for my beliefs, yet I still have no words. One day I will have the words, one day I will put them all here.

I understand politics and what is a business-based site will have an effect. I will talk about that, too, I'm sure.

In the meantime, we're working on some big projects. Let me distract you with our distractions.

We've demolished one of the full baths, combined it with the closet from the master bedroom, and are figuring out a plan to redo the bath on a moderate budget. (Ideas abound, continue to be pinned.)  We also bought a vintage camper at a great deal. We've named him Major Tom (....here am I sitting in a tin can...) As is usually the case, the work is more extensive than we'd thought, but hey! Why not 2 major projects all at once? It is, after all, 2017: the Year of the Distractions.

I'd be remiss without mentioning the significance of Martin Luther King Jr Day (today). I was going to put a quote or some sort of image with his words here. I don't think it's fair to distill his work (and so many others) to a Pinterest worthy spectacle. Instead, take a moment to read the lengthy summary of Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?

Apparently the works-in-progress are far more pervasive than a bathroom redo.
