Today I'm hanging out over at Modish, but I have a quick little artsy post for you to muse yourself into the weekend.

I'm getting to the point where it feels like the world of illustration is growing at such a rapid rate individual identities are consumed and molded into larger organisms of thought.

There are the Ashley G and Drews; the Keri Smith font followers; the Kiki Smith depictors of mythical beasts; Susie Ghahremani-ists with pop patterns and candy colors; the Mid-Century revivalists (or in modern, etsyian language, the Matte Stevens). There are more groups, but you get the gist, and this isn't to knock anyone for what they do,

(Yes, it's kind of strange to have these names all together in one clump, but for my own, less-than-current following of the art world, these 3 names serve the purpose of explanation.)

Then sometimes, someone pops up and smacks you in the face with originality, and today I present one such young'un (25!) Mateu Velasco. A quick google comes up with a bunch of blog entries about him, so I won't list them all, but beyond the blurbs here and there, it's a little hard to know much about him. Anyway, the illustrations speak for themselves, so here you go:
